COVID-19 Positive Cases In Jinjang Remand Centre

Dear Members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar,

We refer to the above matter.

Kindly be informed that we have today, 26 October 2020, received confirmation from Jinjang Remand Centre that two accused persons in the Jinjang Remand Centre have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

We are also made to understand as follows:

(a) the two accused persons were brought to the Kuala Lumpur Court and charged on 19 October 2020;

(b) they were then detained at the Jinjang Remand Centre on the same day;

(c) the two accused persons were thereafter tested for the COVID-19 virus and the results which were received on 25 October 2020 were positive; and

(d) they are now currently receiving treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Kindly be further informed that remand proceedings will still be conducted at the Jinjang Remand Centre. In this regard, we highly advise members to take extra precautions when attending to clients and conducting remand hearings at the Jinjang Remand Centre.

We are also currently liaising with the Kuala Lumpur Court with regard to this matter.

The Ministry Of Health is aware of the incident.
